Body Disconnection Therapy In Calgary
What is Body Disconnection?
Body disconnection happens when you feel cut off from your physical self - like you’re stuck in your head, moving through the day on autopilot, or not fully “in” your body. This response often develops as a way to survive trauma, chronic stress, or environments where your body was made to feel unsafe or unacceptable.
While disconnection may have once protected you, over time it can lead to emotional numbness, difficulty noticing your needs (like hunger, rest, or boundaries), and challenges with self-trust and self-compassion.
Reconnecting with your body starts by creating moments of safety, building awareness, and nurturing a more compassionate relationship with your nervous system.
Common Symptoms of Body Disconnection:
Feeling numb or emotionally “shut down”
Zoning out or dissociating, especially under stress
Difficulty identifying emotions or physical needs
Feeling like a “floating head” or disconnected from your body
Overthinking or obsessing as a way to feel in control
Struggling to sense or set boundaries
Disconnection from pleasure, or feeling shame around it
Feeling out of sync with hunger, exhaustion, or pain
A history of trauma, eating disorders, or body-based shame
