PTSD Therapy In Calgary

What is PTSD?

PTSD, or Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, is a condition that can develop after you go through something extremely stressful, frightening, or disturbing. This could be a single event like an accident, assault, or natural disaster, or it might come from long-term experiences such as abuse, neglect, or living in unsafe environments. PTSD isn’t just about the event itself. It’s about how your body and nervous system are still trying to protect you, even when the danger is over. It can affect your sleep, emotions, sense of safety, and ability to feel present in your life.

Common Symptoms of PTSD:

  • Flashbacks, nightmares, or distressing memories

  • Feeling constantly on edge or easily startled

  • Avoiding places, people, or situations that remind you of the trauma

  • Feeling emotionally numb or shut down

  • Trouble sleeping or staying asleep

  • Irritability, anger, or mood swings

  • Difficulty concentrating or staying focused

  • Feeling unsafe or like something bad could happen at any moment

  • Shame, guilt, or feeling like something is wrong with you

  • Difficulty trusting others or feeling close in relationships
